Principal's Message
September 1st, 2023
Welcome back, Timberwolves,
We are so excited to have the pack back together and to welcome our new Kindergarten kiddos into the fold!
Thanks to those of you who joined us for the Backpack Drop-Off and BBQ, and to the Edenwold School Community Council (SCC) for cooking up a storm! We greatly appreciate all they do for the school, kids, and community. We hope you all had a wonderful summer with plenty of rest, a good book or two (or show), adventures, time with friends and family, and all the other things that bring you joy. While we prepare for another fantastic year at Edenwold School, we hope you enjoy these last few days together, and we look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday, September 5th.
We would like to thank those who provided feedback on the Edenwold School – Survey for Reflection and Growth. Your input is invaluable in our efforts to continually grow and strive for excellence, and we thank you for highlighting what you feel we've done well and sharing areas where we can reflect and evolve to better serve our students, families, and community. Last year, your feedback helped us to renew our school values. This year, it helped us to recognize how we can continue to embrace our core values and improve how we can teach and demonstrate them in all that we do. Also, with this feedback we have decided to alternate between Winter Carnivals and Winter Concerts (see survey results below). For the 2023-2024 school year, we will be planning a Winter Concert. As previously mentioned, some performances will be planned and practiced during Arts Education classes and others will take place at lunch or after school hours for students who would like to participate. Also, we will hold a variety show for anyone interested in showcasing their skills and talents. If anyone would like to volunteer to help in any capacity, please let me know.
As a school team, we have set goals to meet the Prairie Valley School Division's Strategic Plan and the pillars in the Provincial Education Plan. We will continue to focus on literacy to build skills and knowledge our Timberwolves need for future learning, life and participation in society. To help meet this goal, we have planned a one-hour structured literacy block, each morning, where students will receive lessons and supports, and engage in activities to develop their word recognition and language comprehension skills according to their specific needs. We will also continue to share our core values (Kindness, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Diversity) to maintain an inclusive, safe, and welcoming learning environment. Additionally, we plan to support Timberwolves' mental health and wellbeing, particularly in situations where one might feel nervous and/or anxious, and we will also help to strengthen the relationships of students between and within classrooms to maintain a positive school culture. Lastly, we look forward to engaging you and your families in the activities of our school, particularly through volunteer opportunities, engaging with our Timberwolves and their learning, and through the use of Edsby as a communication tool where you can find this letter and future school/classroom announcements and information, among other things. As always, the SCC will collaborate with the school team to meet these goals. If you are interested in joining the SCC or attending meetings, stay tuned for our first meeting date and/or email [email protected].
All our school goals help us with our vision of "Connecting Life and Learning" to meet our mission to "Nurture and Empower All Learners" and help our Timberwolves be happy, healthy, and successful students and people.
We hope to see you at our Terry Fox Walk on Friday, September 22nd. The fundraiser will start on the first day of school. Here is the link for our fundraising page.
